African Hedgehog

They are small spiny animals with short tail, pointed muzzle and short hairy legs with clawed well-dashed padded toes. They are active only in the evenings or nights.  They make a sniffing call.  Once disturbed it rolls into a prickly ball. They are widely spread in drier areas of Africa.  They live in open dry or seasonal habitats with sparse grass cover, especially over grazed region with dense ungulate populations.  They feed on invertebrates eg termites, beetles, earthworms.  They do hibernate in temperate regions except the young. They are nocturnal and solitary animals.
