It is a grizzled brown squirrel, lighter in grid areas. It is dark in the more humid southern parts of its range. It has a lightly banded long tail and there is a single short stripe on each side. The striped ground squirrel lives in rocks and tree-roots in termitaria and in self-dug burrows. They are common in Sudamic Savannah, woodlands. It feeds on roots, grass, seeds, fallen fruits seeds and nuts, acacia pods and leeves. They are good at storing nuts and seeds in burrows. They are common in wide spread but not endangered.
